Tongji University recently signed a number of cooperation agreements with several notable universities and leading Chinese companies in Kenya, to establish the Elite Engineering College there and better cultivate local engineering talents in demand.

During a visit, the delegation from Tongji University engaged in in-depth exchanges with Kenyan universities including the University of Nairobi, Maasai Mara University, Murang'a University of Technology, as well as Chinese companies such as Huawei, ZTE, China State Construction Engineering Corporation and China Road and Bridge Corporation.

According to the agreements, the parties will work together to cultivate urgently needed local engineering talents in various fields such as artificial intelligence, environment, civil engineering, construction, planning and transportation.

The academy is expected to cater to local talent demands in sectors including construction, cooperation, maintenance and management, with the approach of deep integration into industries and companies.

The parties involved agreed that the construction of the engineering college will greatly improve the shortage of localized talents and fill the gap between talent cultivation and demand from companies. In addition, it will promote the development standard of education and businesses and contribute to the high-quality construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and China-Africa production cooperation with solid talent support, according to Tongji University.
